THE BUZZ: The comic-reading boys I grew up with cannot believe that the Weird Western Tales anti-hero has his own movie, but 2010 is the year that Hollywood is testing how many layers deep they can go into comic-book territory and generate hit movies. Too bad the project has felt hexed from its development to production, and inside reports say audiences are unlikely to line up for opening weekend. But we love an underdog, don't you, and if there's an outsider to root for this season, it's definitely Jonah. We're hoping the movie doesn't bomb and that an unrated DVD release will create the demand for a proper, R-rated sequel.

THE BUZZ: Swords, sandals, wigs, and questionable accents are in in in this year, with Prince of Persia looking to please both video game junkies and anyone who openly or secretly desires Jake Gyl. And with director Mike Newell calling the shots, we might be able to take this one semi-seriously.

Studio: Paramount Pictures

The Plot: A bored and domesticated Shrek (Myers) pacts with deal-maker Rumpelstiltskin to get back to feeling like a real ogre again, but when he's duped and sent to a twisted version of Far Far Away -- where Rumpelstiltskin is king, ogres are hunted, and he and Fiona (Diaz) have never met -- he sets out to restore his world and reclaim his true love.

THE BUZZ: Shrek is set for a fourth and final adventure, but the movie's Puss in Boots spin-off, which was once set to go direct-to-DVD but is instead attracting A-listers both established (Selma Hayek) and still dewey behind the ears (Zach Galifianakis). More than anything, it's taking the story back to the days before the yawningly received third chapter. We do wish the rumors about Paul McCartney playing Rumpelstiltskin proved true, alas ...

THE BUZZ: S.W.A.T. was a rather huge success several years ago, so there's no reason another beloved old school TV show can't rule the slumping summer box office for a while -- the recent box office doldrums should be blown away by a booming opening weekend for Liam Neeson and his team of tough guys. Despite the backlot drama, why do I feel like we'll see a sequel to this in 2012?

THE BUZZ: A spin-off that features the obnoxious character from an underwhelming movie ... unfortunately, this comedy seems ripe for bad press and diminishing returns from those who half-hugged Forgetting Sarah Marshall. And something tells me Judd Apatow will be revisiting his greatest hits for potential sequels (i.e. look for Anchorman 2 to be officially greenlit this year) before his superproducer crown loses anymore luster.

Message Boards: Johan Hill is okay, but he needs to lose some weight | sighhh...P. Diddy
